With so many highly anticipated holiday 2022 games delayed until next year, there are really only a handful of big releases this season. That short list includes God of War: Ragnarok, Gotham Knights and the latest installment in one of gaming’s longest-running franchises, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

Of these, Modern Warfare 2 is the most likely to wow graphics fans, especially running on a high-powered gaming PC. If you’ve got a budget gaming laptop, you should still be able to run the game, but it won’t look nearly as nice. If you have a laptop or desktop without a discrete graphics card from Nvidia or AMD, there’s no chance. You should stick to the console version, as the game is also available on the PlayStation and Xbox platforms.

Activision actually lists four different sets of specs to consider for PC players. They include the usual minimum and recommended specs, but also a separate set for competitive gamers (online multiplayer) and another set specifically for 4K gaming.

The final moments of the opening ceremonies for the 2022 League of Legends World Championship featured star performer Lil Nas X seemingly lifted into the air by the hand of a giant mech while a championship trophy floated around him. It was an impressive display of artistic vision and technical expertise — and it’s also the reason Carrie Dunn, creative director for Riot esports, has been a little stressed of late. “Any time you hoist a cultural superstar in the air for your finale,” she says, “there’s anxiety in that.”

Worlds is the highlight of League‘s competitive calendar, with the finals pitting two teams against each other who have worked all year for a chance at the trophy. This year’s edition featured the return of the legendary Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok — known by the incredible nickname the “unkillable demon king” — and his team T1 facing off against fellow Korean side DRX. But as appealing as the actual games are, often, the opening ceremony steals the show.

Over the last few years, with covid-related restrictions in place, the team has had to get a little more creative. 2020 featured a mixed reality stage to make the crowd-free competition feel more exciting, while last year eschewed a live show altogether for a gigantic music video tied to the release of Arcane on Netflix.

We’ve almost reached the end of the first season of Amazon’s Lord of the Rings prequel series, The Rings of Power. Whether it’s set your imagination on fire or simply provided a lukewarm way to fill the time, the show has certainly provided a talking point. The eighth and final episode will hit Prime Video on Thursday, Oct. 14 at 9 pm PT.

You’ve put in long hours studying for your college midterms and don’t want anyone copying your answers. What do you do? You cobble together a wacky anti-cheating helmet that blocks your peers from seeing your test, of course.

That’s what students at a school in the Philippines did on the prompting of their teacher, who asked them to create headgear that would prevent others from copying their work.

Mary Joy Mandane-Ortiz, a professor of mechanical engineering at Bicol University’s College of Engineering in Legazpi City, told the BBC she initially asked students to make a “simple” design out of paper as a fun way to ensure honest exam-taking earlier this month.

But these engineers weren’t going to settle for simple.

They tapped anything they could find — from paper bags to cardboard tubes and boxes, bubble wrap, fabric, clothes hangers and even a tennis racket case to create headwear that obscures neighbors’ views.

One student placed an open umbrella canopy atop his head, while another wore headphones to hold two rectangular paper blinders in place over his ears.

Another went with a plastic face mask like the one the thieves wear in Netflix series Money Heist, only this version has a paper rim above it bearing the words “midterm heist.”

Apple’s new iPad has been officially unveiled, and it’s the biggest update to the entry-level device since its inception. With a design overhaul to match the iPad Air and iPad Pro models that came before it, the new iPad has an edge-to-edge display, flat sides and USB-C port.
