The Flipper Zero is a Swiss Army knife of antennas

| Computer, Computers

Every once in a while, something comes along that every nerd out there covets. I have lost more than my fair share of time and money on my MiSTerI have pined for a Steam Decksand I am currently following restock bots for any Raspberry Pi I can get my hands on for less than 100 bucks during the Grand Pi Shortage of 2022.

But few devices have captured the imagination of your friend who works in IT quite like the Flipper Zero: a hacking multi-tool shaped like a playful child’s toy and adorned with a friendly dolphin. Packed with a range of sensors, chips, and antennas, the Flipper lets you make a playful mischief with all sorts of devices, from security gates to card readers.

There are drawbacks to the mischief business. The company that makes the gadget has had to deal with payments of more than $1.3 million being held up by PayPal and shipments of devices being held up by US Customs — all of which gives the device a certain cachet among the hacker set.

What is it?

To the untrained eye, the Flipper Zero looks like a toy. It’s a small, orange and white plastic device with a playful, Tamagotchi-like dolphin on its monochrome orange 1.4-inch display. Cute! But in reality, the Flipper Zero is a multi-tool that covers many of your hacking needs. Imagine a Leatherman or a Swiss Army knife but for talking to electronics, and you have a general sense

‘She-Hulk’ Release Schedule: When Does Episode 9 Hit Disney Plus?

| Computer, Computers

The current Marvel series dropping weekly episodes on Disney Plus is almost over. She-Hulk: Attorney at Law is a half-hour scripted comedy about Jennifer Walters (played by the incredible Tatiana Maslany), the Hulk’s equally green cousin.

The first season consists of nine episodes. Six are directed by Kat Coiro and the other three by Anu Valia, with Jessica Gao as head writer. Originally, She-Hulk was set to take over Ms. Marvel’s Wednesday release spot, but the episodes instead arrive each Thursday (probably because Star Wars series Andor took over the Wednesday slot).

Exact She-Hulk episode release dates and times

Here are the exact episode release times.

The first smashing trailer

After a teaser that well and truly teased us (by not showing She-Hulk’s face), Marvel dropped the first official trailer on May 17. This time we see what She-Hulk will look like in her awesome green glory.

She-Hulk also stars Mark Ruffalo, Benedict Wong and Tim Roth, who starred as the main antagonist in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk. Ginger Gonzaga, Josh Segarra, Jameela Jamil, Jon Bass and Renée Elise Goldsberry are also part of the cast.

Google and Renault are working on a ‘software-defined vehicle’

| Computer, Computers

Google and the Renault Group are expanding their four-year-old partnership to include the development of an advanced software platform for future vehicles. This “software-defined vehicle” will be built on Google’s Android Automotive operating system and send data to the company’s cloud servers for processing, the companies announced.

In 2018, Renault struck a deal with Google as part of a broader partnership between the tech giant and the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance, which collectively is one of the largest auto groups in the world. As part of the deal, the Alliance announced that it would adopt Google’s native car operating system, which offers built-in Assistant, Maps, and Play Store.

Renault says it is appointing Google as its “preferred cloud provider”

Today’s announcement, though, is just between Google and Renault. As such, it only applies to the French automaker’s four brands, Renault, Dacia, Alpine, and Mobilize. Renault says it is appointing Google as its “preferred cloud provider.” (Other automakers have gone with Amazon Web Services.)

That first deal was just about putting Android in millions of new vehicles. Today’s announcement is a little more complex. Google and Renault say they will work together to create a “Digital Twin,” or a virtual carbon copy of a vehicle that features advanced artificial intelligence capabilities “for an easier and continuous integration of new services into the vehicle and the creation of new onboard ( In-Car Services) and offboard applications,” the companies announced.

Google and Renault claim that collaborating on software and testing out new AI capabilities in

Shutterstock will start selling AI-generated stock imagery with help from OpenAI

| Computer, Computers

Will AI image generators kill the stock image industry? It’s a question asked by many following the rise of text-to-image AI models in recent years. The answer from the industry’s incumbents, though, is “no” — not if we can start selling AI-generated content first.

Today, stock image giant Shutterstock has announced an , which will see the AI lab’s text-to-image model DALL-E 2 directly integrated into Shutterstock “in the coming months.” In addition, Shutterstock is launching a “Contributor Fund” that will reimburse creators when the company sells work to train text-to-image AI models. This follows widespread criticism from artists whose output has been scraped from the web without their consent to create these systems. Notably, Shutterstock is also banning the sale of AI-generated art on its site that is note made using its DALL-E integration.

Shutterstock is banning third-party AI art and offering its own DALL-E integration

In a press statement, Shutterstock’s CEO Paul Hennessy said: “The mediums to express creativity are constantly evolving and expanding. We recognize that it is our great responsibility to embrace this evolution and to ensure that the generative technology that drives innovation is grounded in ethical practices.”

Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, said: “We’re excited for Shutterstock to offer DALL-E images to its customers as one of the first deployments through our API, and we look forward to future collaborations as artificial intelligence becomes an integral part of artists’ creative workflows.”

This isn’t the first time Shutterstock and OpenAI have worked together in this

See Wild, First Ever Video of Octopuses ‘Throwing’ Stuff at Each Other

| Computer, Computers

New video captured by scientists suggests octopuses aren’t shy about throwing down. First-of-its-kind footage shows the creatures propelling silt and shells through the water.

“Wild octopuses project various kinds of material through the water in jet-propelled ‘throws,’ and these throws sometimes hit other octopuses,” reads a statement from the University of Sydney Peter Godfrey-Smith and colleagues who authored a study published Wednesday in the journal Plos One.

In a full 24 hours of footage recorded off the coast of Australia in 2015 and 2016 using underwater cameras, the researchers cataloged 102 examples of gloomy octopuses (Octopus tetricus) tossing everything from dirt and debris to the octopus equivalent of table scraps around the sea floor .

In one clip, a female octopus can be seen tossing off a shell after chowing down its contents.

As the motion of the throw begins, another octopus reached toward her and they touch as the shells are released.

Godfrey-Smith et al., 2022, PLOS ONE

“There is some evidence that some of these throws that hit others are targeted, and play a social role,” the authors add.

Somewhat ironically, the octopuses aren’t relying so much on any of their eight arms to make these throws. Instead they gather up the material to be tossed and then propel it through the water using their siphon, which is a tube-like part of their anatomy that can eject water at high speed. So it’s a little bit like an underwater hydraulic slingshot action rather than a throw the way
