Marvel’s ‘Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur’ Gets Second Season, Title Sequence Reveal

Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur animated series is getting a second season pickup ahead of its February 2023 debut, and in the meantime Disney also revealed the show’s title sequence Saturday during New York Comic Con.

The Moon Girl animated series stars Lunella (Diamond White), a 13-year-old who accidentally brings the 10-ton Devil Dinosaur (Fred Tatasciore) into the present day. She and the dinosaur partner up and protect Manhattan’s Lower East Side. The show is based on the comic series that debuted in 2015.

The title sequence shows off a comic-inspired animation style, including characters and scenery that have a hand-drawn appearance, as Lunella roller-skates through the city with her dinosaur. The sequence also features a bouncy theme song written and produced by three-time Grammy Award winner Raphael Saadiq, who will be the show’s executive music producer.

The show’s regular cast will also include Libe Barer as Casey, Alfre Woodard as Mimi, Sasheer Zamata as Adria, Jermaine Fowler as James Jr. and Gary Anthony Williams as Pops. Actor Laurence Fishburne recurs as the Beyonder and also serves as an executive producer on the show along with Helen Sugland.

It’s been a long road for the Moon Girl series, which was first officially announced in 2019 for the Disney Channel. The show will still debut on the network and will also stream on Disney Plus.

I Tried Netflix With Ads for 1 Week. Here’s What I Learned

Like many of you, I’ve been a Netflix streaming customer for at least a decade. Over the years, the service tacked on new features, created a few pop culture beasts and stuck to its commitment on no commercials. Netflix has been an ad-free zone since 2007. But everything changed when it announced a cheaper tier with ads six months ago. It came as a shock to many, even in a space where just about every other streaming rival has an ad-supported plan.

Basic with Ads officially rolled out on Nov. 3, about one month before Disney Plus implements price hikes and its own ad tier for $8. My curiosity was piqued about how Netflix would handle its new “with ads” subscription, especially since we’ve gotten used to — and maybe even spoiled by — the commercial-free setup. Would the experience be like Hulu’s? Are ads part of every single thing we watch?

I checked it out and, well, it’s not that bad.

Let me say this first: Netflix’s ads are seamlessly embedded into TV shows and movies, much like cable TV commercial breaks. But that doesn’t mean the extra $3 for the basic ad-free version isn’t worth it.

Netflix is full to the brim with world-class documentaries. We know this. And, diving deeper, no subgenre is as packed as true crime.

In some ways Netflix is to blame for the all-consuming popularity of true crime. Early Netflix documentaries like Making a Murderer, alongside viral podcasts like Serial, have in almost every single streaming platform stacking the deck with dozens of copycat shows.

Netflix – undoubtedly – has the deepest (and best) true crime back catalog and that has continued to this day. Established, legacy hits like The Keepers and The Staircase are now buoyed by recent classics like Keep Sweet and The Girl in the Picture.

But there’s one true crime series on Netflix I rarely hear people discussed, which is strange. Because for my money, it’s the best of the lot.

Who Killed Little Gregory is a 2019 five part series focused on the case of 4-year-old Grégory Villemin, who was found murdered in the Vologne river in France in 1984.

What follows is a sordid tale that spans a ludicrous three decades. With family feuds, multiple twists and turns, the ominous presence of an anonymous crank caller known as “The Raven,” Who Killed Little Gregory is a fascinating story that continually surprises in terms of its scope. A significant part of the show is dedicated to solving the mystery of the murder itself but, like the very best documentaries, it examines broader, challenging issues unearthed by this brutal, horrifying crime.

Curious Black Hole Crash in Deep Space Leaves Astrophysicists Puzzled

Black hole collisions are some of the most extreme phenomena in the universe. As the two massive, invisible bodies spiral toward each other, they disturb the fabric of spacetime, sending out ripples across the universe. Those ripples — gravitational waves — eventually wash over the Earth, where some very sensitive detectors in the US, Italy and Japan can “hear” them.

One such ripple washed over our planet in the early hours of Jan. 29, 2020. It was picked up by the dual detectors of the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO) in the US and a third detector, Virgo, in Italy. The detectors’ characteristic chirp suggested a pair of black holes, one that was around 40 times the mass of the sun and the other 22 times, had smashed together.

In a new study, published on Wednesday in the journal Nature, researchers examined the wave from this collision, dubbed GW200129, which — when first discovered — showed a peculiar signal. The wave’s chirp seemed to suggest the black holes that crashed into each other were “wobbling” around in their orbit. This wobble is, scientifically, known as “precession,” and it would be the first time we’ve seen this effect in black holes.

However, other gravitational wave scientists aren’t so certain the signal provides proof of this phenomenon. Instead, they have wondered whether the data may be affected by a glitch in one of the gravitational wave detectors that first spotted GW200129.
