Bryce Harper and the Philadelphia Phillies are in the midst of a magical run. After dispatching the Cardinals, Braves and Padres to reach the 2022 MLB World Series, the lowest-seeded team in the National League took Game 1 in a dramatic 10-inning victory Friday, overcoming an early deficit to beat the heavily favored Astros 6-5. The Phillies handed Houston its first postseason loss and robbed the Astros of home field advantage. For tonight’s Game 2, Houston will try to salvage a split at home before the series heads to Philadelphia for the next three games. The Astros will host the first two games and, if necessary, the last two games of the World Series. The middle three games of the best-of-seven series will be in Philly. Every game will be shown on Fox.

The hacker responsible for the massive 2019 data breach of Capital One has been sentenced to time served and five years of probation.

US District Judge Robert S. Lasnik said that sending former Amazon systems engineer Paige Thompson to time in prison would’ve been “particularly difficult on her because of her mental health and transgender status,” the Department of Justice said in a statement.

US Attorney Nick Brown said in a statement that he was “very disappointed” with the sentencing decision. “This is not what justice looks like,” he said. Thompson had faced up to 20 years in prison for wire fraud, but prosecutors instead had sought a seven-year sentence.

The hack, one of the largest-ever breaches of a financial services company, affected more than 100 million US customers and involved theft of sensitive data including Social Security and bank account numbers. In addition to downloading data, Thompson planted cryptocurrency mining software on servers and directed crypto to her online wallet, the Justice Department said.

“Ms. Thompson’s hacking and theft of information of 100 million people did more than $250 million in damage to companies and individuals,” Brown said. “Her cybercrimes created anxiety for millions of people who are justifiably concerned about their private information. This conduct deserves a more significant sanction.”

Thompson, 37, was found guilty in June of wire fraud, unauthorized access to a protected computer and damaging a protected computer. She was acquitted on charges of aggravated identity theft and access device fraud.

Capital One agreed

Global phenom Kpop group BTS is compared so its members can undertake their mandated military service before reforming “around 2025,” the role official statement Monday. In response, fans flocked to Twitter promising to wait for their triumphant return.

BTS has risen to international stardom in the decade since forming, with members of the Korean boy band permitted to postpone their military service in 2020 to continue performing.

The statement from BTS’ label BigHit Music announcing the group’s hiatus states that band members will resume giving performances after they complete military service, and “there’s much more yet to come in the years ahead.” Fans have met the news with sadness and admiration.

BTS member Jin will be the first to enlist at some point this month, with the remaining members of the group signing up for service later.

Fans won’t be left completely left, as some members will still conduct individual activities into the first half of next year. BTS has also stockpiled content in advance to release during the hiatus, per an investors note released by BigHit parent company Hybe Corporation.
