Why it’s a great gift: For me and many of my close friends, music is life! And if you’re a millennial or older like me, you have to admit, digital music just doesn’t hit the same way as popping in a physical album into your sound system. Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities review: eclectic horror on Netflix

When you put Guillermo del Toro’s name on something, it invites certain expectations. Whether he’s making superhero movies or gothic romance stories, the director’s works all share certain sensibilities: a love of outcasts, incredible attention to detail, a seamless marriage of high and pop culture, and lots of really cool monsters. That all remains true in Cabinet of Curiosities, a horror anthology on Netflix. But it’s also much more than that: while del Toro’s name is in the title, he’s enlisted a carefully curated group of directors, writers, and actors to bring each story to life. The result is a collection of spooky stories that span an incredible range of tones and styles.

Each episode starts out the same: del Toro introduces the evening’s story with a brief monologue while pulling strange objects out of a literal cabinet of curiosities. It’s sort of like a less embarrassing version of the opening from HBO’s Spawn series. The series itself is a collection of eight standalone episodes, each around an hour long, which all poke around the edges of horror. Some are straight-up ghost stories; others veer into sci-fi. But they’re all spooky in their own way. There’s also an interesting release Cadence — two episodes will release daily for the rest of the week — that gives the whole thing a Halloween event feel.

‘Andor’ Release Schedule: When Does Episode 6 Hit Disney Plus?

The Star Wars universe is expanding on Disney Plus in the form of Rogue One prequel series Andor, which takes place five years prior to the events of the 2016 movie. This 12-episode series kicked off on Sept. 21when the first three episodes hits Disney’s streaming service.

Five episodes are available now, and we’ll now get one episode each Wednesday until Nov. 23.

Diego Luna returns as Cassian Andor, who plays a vital role as a spy in the early days of the Rebel Alliance against the totalitarian Galactic Empire.

Here’s the full schedule for Andor on Disney Plus, as confirmed by the official Star Wars Twitter account. New episodes generally drop at midnight PT (3 am ET/8 am GMT/5 pm AEST).

Is there a trailer?

Lucasfilm gave us several trailers ahead of the show’s release, with the latest coming at parent company Disney’s D23 Expo in early September. You can also check out a 9-minute preview (mostly scenes from episode 3) in Disney Plus.

Will Andor get a second season?

It sure will. Creator Tony Gilroy confirmed at May’s Star Wars Celebration Anaheim that the show will return for a 12-episode second season that leads directly into Rogue One. It’s unclear when season 2 will air, but it’ll probably hit Disney Plus in 2023 or 2024. Expect to hear more at Star Wars Celebration Europe next April.
